About us
Open Ear is a music design and promotions company based in Glasgow, UK. Open Ear ‘designs’ musical environments and delivers music to commercial and public spaces including bars, cafes, restaurants, shops and studios. Set up by a team of DJs, music industry experts, music event promoters, music psychologists and radio producers since launching in 2007 Open Ear has amassed clients all over the UK and picked up innovation awards from NESTA (National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts), PSYBT (Princes’ Scottish Youth Business Trust) and Glasgow City Council.
Managing Director: Brian Harvey
Brian is the founder and managing director of Open Ear Limited. His qualifications incude a MA (Hons) degree in Psychology and MSc in Sound Design both from Edinburgh University. From 2001 to 2005, he managed the events company Quality Control, promoting cutting-edge live music and DJ events around Scotland. He has worked in radio, as a DJ, music production and is an award-winning sound artist, winning the PRSF (Performing Rights Society) ‘Live Connections’ award in 2007 with BAFTA-winning filmmaker Ling Lee. From 2005 to 2007 he was a partner at the sound design and music production company Unified Sound and Music working on several films, animations and documentaries around the UK. In 2007, he was accepted onto the NESTA (National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts) Creative Pioneer programme, a UK-wide initiative to support 30 young innovators starting up in business. NESTA’s expert training and support enabled Open Ear to launch in late 2007.
Music Manager: Neil Macdonald
Neil joined Open Ear following 8 years as record buyer and manager of the music retailer Fopp. He has a vast knowledge of all types of music and experience as a DJ, in various bands and as an event promoter.
Business development: Toby Leeming
Toby recently joined Open Ear in 2010 as London-based business development manager. Toby comes from a background as a freelance wed designer and musician with a degree in Psychology.

With a combined 30 years DJ experience between them, our team of DJs regular play gigs around Europe and have had releases on a ariety of independent record labels. Completely in touch with music trends in all genres, our team of music designers use their vast expertise to design perfect playlists all day long.
